What to look for when buying an electric bike
Paddle-assisted or throttle?
Electric bikes fall into two categories: pedal-assisted and throttle. The motor of the paddle-assisted electric bike is activated only when you are actively paddling, but a throttle electric bike will zip you up even if you are not padding. There are advantages to both types: Electric bikes with throttle allow you to kick back and enjoy the ride, while paddle-assisted electric bikes will provide longer rides on the same battery charge.

Motor type
Less expensive electric bikes traditionally use rear hub motors. Mid-drive motors located on the center pedal crankshaft tend to be more expensive but provide better overall balance and smoother transfer.
Motors are rated based on their power, measured in watts. Normally, the minimum powerful motor will be 250 watts, but unless you are a very large person or do not really plan to climb steep hills, the size of the motor should not be a major determining factor for your purchase. More importantly, there is no industry standard for measuring watts (is it continuous or peak and if at the top, how many more days?) So in general, the wattage rating of a motor is not a reliable indication of power.
Battery size

Higher WH translates to more range.
Many electric bike manufacturers will include an approximate range (usually about 40 miles) that you can get from a single charge. You should take this figure with a large grain of salt, as this number is usually determined by the ideal situation: a person of fairly light weight does not move on flat terrain without air and at ambient temperatures perfect for batteries. Depending on whether full-throttle has been applied and for how many days, and your average speed will also depend on the level of power support level. As they say, your mileage may be different.
Removable or built-in battery?

Electric bike regulations
